Hi, I'm Mary.
I'm a writer, historian, graduate student, wife, and mom who is endlessly curious about why people do what they do and what history can teach us about who we're becoming.
I earned my bachelor's degree in History and am currently pursuing a master's degree in International Policy Management. My academic work has taught me to recognize patterns, ask better questions, and think critically about the forces that shape our world. But some of my most meaningful lessons haven't come from classrooms. They've come from raising two little girls, navigating uncertainty, and learning that understanding people often requires as much empathy as evidence.
What began as a love of history has grown into something much broader. I'm fascinated by the stories we inherit, the narratives we repeat, and the quiet ways history continues to shape our everyday lives. My writing explores the intersections of history, politics, culture, technology, memory, faith, and the human experience, not because they're separate subjects, but because they're all part of the same conversation.
I don't write because I have all the answers.
I write because I believe better questions can change the way we see the world.
Through The Sunday Pamphlet, I publish one essay each month that connects the past to the present, the personal to the political, and the historical to the deeply human. My hope isn't to tell you what to think. It's an invitation to look a little closer.
When I'm not writing or studying, you'll usually find me chasing after my daughters, reading three books at once, training for a half marathon I haven't signed up for yet, or disappearing down an unexpected research rabbit hole.
I'm grateful you're here.
